JOB SUMMARY
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A TEMPORARY, PART-TIME ASSIGNMENT OF 2-3 MONTHS DURATION.

Provide administrative and other support functions to the County Apportionment Commission. The County Apportionment Commission consists of the County Clerk, County Treasurer, County Prosecuting Attorney and the County Chairs of the two major political parties. Every 10 years, the Commission meets to review U.S. Census data and redistrict County Commission boundaries.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Duties:

  • Attends County Apportionment Commission meetings and prepares the official meeting minutes.
  • Compiles demographic reports using U.S. Census data
  • Prepares various redistricting plans requested by the Commission
  • Maintains official records for the Commission
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Computer applications related to the work (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Operation of standard office equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, printers and calculators.
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to interpret statistics and demographics
  • Experience working with geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Thorough understanding of Washtenaw County geography and boundary issues
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
  • The ideal candidate will have a background in demographics, GIS, urban planning or related fields.
  • Experience working with public commissions is desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.
