JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, conducts various regularly scheduled and/or random drug and alcohol tests on program participants in accordance with protocols. Assists with lab operations and the processing of drug and alcohol screens. Enters and maintains required records in various databases; provides reports to courts as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Duties:

  • Collects samples and performs a variety of drug and substance abuse testing in accordance with established protocols utilizing approved technology and equipment.
  • Schedules participants for testing and ensures compliance with testing requirements.
  • Performs therapeutic drug testing as well as validity measurements using an automated drug screening analyzer.
  • Utilizes synthetic reagents or compounds added to the sample to cause a chemical reaction in order to measure microscopic amounts of drugs and drug metabolites in human biological fluids.
  • Assists in maintaining calibration and controls of analyzer.
  • Assists in running quality control of analyzer and lab operations.
  • Assists in tracking appropriate supply stock for operations as well as reagents and controls for analyzer. Orders supplies to maintain proper lab operations.
  • Maintains records of activity and enters data in various databases.
  • Provides reports of results and compliance to management and specific reports to Probation, Parole, the court and other system users and clients.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment inventory and invoicing.
  • Attends meetings and trainings as required.
  • Writes internal communications and reports as required.
  • Represents the Office of the Sheriff Community Corrections in a manner consistent with Office mission, strategies and values.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with local criminal justice system officials and peer professionals.
  • Maintains a practical familiarity with the criminal justice system.
  • Uses standard office equipment and computers as well as other various technologies in the course of the work.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to work at any designated work site.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.
  • Duties may require employee to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pound of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to bend, reach and lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
  • Must be willing to work varied hours and extended shifts including holidays and be on-call.

EDUCATION
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a post high school degree or other relevant coursework, certificates, etc. is also desirable.
EXPERIENCE
  • One (1) year of experience working in a criminal justice, social work, medical or comparable setting.
  • Experience working with automated information systems is preferred.
