JOB SUMMARY
|
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, assists with rain garden maintenance, education, and expansion efforts to support program continuance to increase efforts to reduce stormwater runoff and protect the waterways within Washtenaw County.
|
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
Essential Duties:
|

Rain Garden Assistance Visits for homeowners including site assessment and planting recommendations.
|

Lead public rain garden workdays with volunteer groups of K-12 students and adult residents.
|

Assist with schoolyard rain garden building and planting days
|
-
Teaching volunteers and students about rain garden plants and process.
|
-
Assist with communication projects related to local rain garden projects, community updates, program events, and outreach.
|
-
Assist with the facilitation of public events and community outreach.
|
-
Monitoring of rain garden installations and inventories.
|
-
Create and provide raining on rain garden installation and maintenance.
|
-
Conduct research through surveys and/or interviews to assess resident understanding, knowledge, and valuation of rain gardens.
|
-
Report suggested methods to increase support of rain gardens and targeted informational campaigns based on findings.
|
-
Assess priority rain garden sites inventory and ecosystem functioning through mapping of identified plants and invasive species.
|
-
Create reports including individual garden profile and management plan recommendations.
|

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
|
Skill in:
|
Interest is required in the areas of Environmental management, environmental education, resource ecology or related fields. Proven ability to communicate and deal effectively with people both individually and in groups.
|

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
|
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in normal office and field settings, including ability to make field site inspections, and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone. Be able to lift 20 lbs and be able to do gardening work for at least 3 hours at a time. Must be able and licensed to drive and comfortable driving a truck.

EDUCATION
|
Students pursuing a 4 year degree or post graduate in environmental policy or natural resource protection preferred.
|
EXPERIENCE
|
One (1) year of customer service is preferred.
|

Ability to attend work at various locations within Washtenaw County on time.
