JOB SUMMARY
|
Under the direction of a higher classified employee, this position directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course and parkland areas, including but not limited to, tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths. In addition, coordinates the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment required to operate the Golf Course. May serve in the Greens Manager's capacity during his/her absence.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|
Essential Duties:
|

Provides input and support to future development and renovation projects of the course and associated facilities, through working relationships with various resources.
|

Assists with day-to-day operating policies and procedures and the interpretation and execution of broader policies under the authority of the Greens Manager.
|

Assists in planning and organization of the maintenance of the golf course, clubhouse grounds, and park area, including tree trimming or removal, construction of tees, sand bunkers, drains, screening, and planting of trees.
|

Helps prepare work schedules; and supervises the employees as needed.
|

Assists with the recordkeeping of personnel, equipment used, supplies, and schedules indicating application of fertilizers, sprays & chemicals, and their use each season.
|

Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.
|

Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.

Strongly motivated to align and partner with the Golf Course Superintendent and Greens Manager to complete all tasks to the highest standards and achieve team goals.

Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.

May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
|
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
|

Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.

Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.

Knowledge of supervision of staff, coaching, and mentoring techniques, as well as recruitment and hiring.
|

Adaptability, fluidity in situations to move between tasks and requirements.
|
-
Previous experience in golf course maintenance and golf course equipment maintenance.
|

Knowledge of relevant safety regulations.
|

Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications as specified by supervisor.

Good communication skills and ability to foster teamwork

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
|
-
Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license is required.
|

Must possess a Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certificate for the State of Michigan within six (6) months of hire.
|
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
|
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; talk or hear, walk, and operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

EDUCATION
|

Equivalent to a possession of an associate's degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, plant science, or horticulture or two-year certificate from accredited college turfgrass program. Bachelor's degree is desirable.

EXPERIENCE
|

Three (3) years of progressively more responsible experience working on a golf course. Must have experience of some kind in a supervisory or lead capacity. Experience in a public agency setting is desirable.
|
