JOB SUMMARY
Work schedule is based on a 40-hour week, which may include rotating shifts, weekends and holidays

Under the supervision of the Health Services Access Supervisor, clinical team and within the framework of the WCHO policies and programs, interacts with customers of Health Services Access. Pre-screens individuals related to eligibility of services funded through the WCHO and assists in disposition of calls coming into the call center.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Duties:

  • Assists individuals requesting information or services via telephone or face to face through triage process to route requests appropriately to clinicians within the Access Department, Public Health, or other county office locations and web sites or to resources appropriate to the request.
  • Consults with Access supervisor and/or professional staff for triage of emergent, urgent, or high priority requests such as crisis, suicide or homicide risk.
  • Pre-screens eligibility requirements for individuals requesting WCHO funded services; checking on funding source information, third-party payer information, insurance coverage, cancellation of policy and requests for confirmation of the above.
  • Documents all service request information as it applies to eligibility, demographics, and urgency of the call in the WCHO electronic medical record.
  • Schedules and reschedules appointments within the WCHO electronic medical record.
  • Monitors initial assessment appointments and provides follow up telephone contact for rescheduling and/or outreach and engagement services.
  • Provides referrals to resources and maintains a electronic resource guide.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Michigan Mental Health Code
  • Working with Eligibility Criteria and Guidelines
  • HIPAA Guidelines
  • Computer software programs
  • Referral resources
  • Excellent engagement and customer service skills
  • Proficiency in keyboarding skills
  • Independent judgement and complex decision making with established policy and procedural guidelines
  • Operation of standard office equipment including ACD telephone system and computer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech sufficient to community in person or over the telephone.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in social services or a related field.
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in mental health, public health and/or substance abuse preferred. Knowledge of community resources desired.
