JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, assists in the operation of parks and recreation facilities. At times, this position is responsible for the opening and closing of the building. Additionally, this position is responsible for providing customer service, conflict resolution, and full-facility emergency response, including aquatics staff assistance. Provides support to seasonal desk staff in relation to customer service, policy enforcement and computer software use.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Assists in the daily operation of parks and recreation facilities.
  • Responsible for opening and/or closing the recreation facility.
  • Responsible for daily receipts verification at building close and assists in accounting for said receipts.
  • Assists in daily operation and ensures that facility is safe, rules and regulations are enforced, and staff are adequately performing their job duties.
  • Responds to customer service situations in a professional manner.
  • Assists in emergency response, CPR, First Aid and lifeguard duties as necessary.
  • Coordinates special programs, projects or events as determined by supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Principles and practices of community recreation and leisure service programs and equipment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Setting priorities, multi-tasking and problem resolution.
  • Using sound, independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines.
  • Maintaining effective communication.
  • Preparing clear, concise and effective written materials.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a valid Michigan Vehicle Operator's license
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification is required or the ability to obtain with 30 days of hire.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate required or ability to obtain within six months from the date of hire.
EDUCATION
  • Possession of a high school diploma, or the equivalent
EXPERIENCE
  • One-year of experience in a recreational field is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials, a computer monitor, and a hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone. Duties also require sufficient physical agility to set up recreation equipment and perform necessary inspections of said equipment to ensure it is ready for use by participants.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Willingness and ability to cover for a late or absent lifeguard
