JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of a higher classified employee, the WIC CPA primary responsibility is to ensure the delivery of program services in compliance with State and WCHD's guidelines, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities of this position would include certifications, re-certifications, mid-certification evaluations through eligibility determination, nutrition education, community referrals, prescribing food packages, appointment scheduling and accurate documentation of services in MIWIC system. The CPA provides client assessments, client centered nutrition education for individual and groups. The CPA will promote breastfeeding as the optimal / normative standard of infant feeding.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Duties:

  • Participants in workgroups, conferences, webcasts and trainings focused on improving nutrition and program services.
  • Completes client evaluations, identifies nutritional risk, and conducts appropriate nutrition education / intervention.
  • Explains program eligibility, nutrition education and benefits to WIC clients.
  • Provides referrals to a variety of WIC eligible and health department eligible services including high-risk nutrition needs counseling, breastfeeding, public assistance and other community resources.
  • Complete all required documentation in a variety of systems including MIWIC and / or other electronic record solutions.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good working knowledge of the following programs: Medicaid, Washtenaw Health Plan and other Health Department programs.
  • Good understanding of family-centered care and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledgeable about available community resources.
  • Good communication skills - active listening, presenting, oral / written communication.
  • Bi-lingual skills desirable.
  • Applying and explaining policies and procedures.
  • Organizing and maintaining accurate files and records.
  • Team oriented - establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted within the course of work.
  • Entering data into an electronic solution with sufficient speed and accuracy to perform the work of the department.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of valid Michigan Vehicle Operator's license is required.
Required to complete the MDHHS/WIC offered trainings related to Competent Professional Authority CPA program within 6-12 months of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in a science related field - nutrition, public health, sociology, social work, registered nurse.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 1 year of experience in a professional office setting.
