JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, plans, organizes and implements a variety of programs for individual client needs, populations at risk, public and private schools, staff development and the general public. Also identifies, develops and presents or assists in presentation of relevant health promotion materials.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Duties:

  • Plans, develops and evaluates health education programs for personal and community health services.
  • Establishes and maintains linkages in the professional community related to personal and community health programs and services.
  • Collects and analyzes data for health status and health department programs; assists in defining health education needs.
  • Trains staff to prepare information or directly develop information using a variety of methods including the media, community forums, conferences, speeches, articles, reports, displays, health fairs, and curriculum development.
  • Collects and maintains resource file on health education information and materials.
  • Coordinates special health programs and presentations.
  • Provides health education expertise/consultation to staff and contacts within specialized community organizations.
  • Organizes and conducts meetings between health professionals to maintain communication and information exchange.
  • Represents the agency programs and goals within the community.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT QAULIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Excellent office administrative practices and procedures, including computer operations, software applications, and standard office equipment.
  • Understanding of policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to the Health Department and other public health programs or resources.
  • Superior writing and presentation skills; ability to produce clear, concise and effective materials in multiple formats and for multiple audiences.
  • Capacity to maintain accurate records and documentation of work.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid driver's operator's license or state issued identification card.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.

EDUCATION
Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in health education, public health, communications, or a related subject area.
EXPERIENCE
This is an entry-level classification; no specific prior experience is required. Six (6) month break-in period.
