JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation, plans, organizes, directs, and reviews the operation and maintenance of Pierce Lake Golf Course, a, park facility specializing in golf and golf-related events, as well as offering multiple year-round programs and activities.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Essential Duties:

  • Plans, organizes, assigns, directs, and reviews the work of permanent and seasonal staff. Assists in the selection of personnel, evaluates work, and recommends and discipline as required.
  • Hire, supervise, train, evaluate, develop, and discipline subordinate employees for development of a professional and support staff with a high degree of competence and sound judgment. Trains staff in work procedures, ensuring that County and departmental policies and procedures are followed.
  • Assist in the development of and administers the budget for the facility and its attendant programs. Directs the collection and accounting of fees received, including greens fees, memberships, golf outings, pavilion rentals, cart & equipment rental, and concession operations.
  • Develops working schedules and plans special activities and programs to maximize usage of the golf course and park in each of the four seasons.
  • Directs and participates in purchasing activities, ensuring that an adequate inventory of operational and maintenance supplies is maintained.
  • Ensures that the facility building, equipment and grounds are properly maintained and safe for use by the public.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with a variety of citizens groups and the public. Works closely with other departmental staff to solve a broad range of administrative and service delivery problems.
  • Answers questions from and resolves difficult problems with the public.
  • Assist in the development of long-range plans for the facility. Suggest both physical and program improvements to enhance park usage.
  • Develop and implement new systems to improve and streamline work processes and procedures that are integrated and coordinated across the organization when appropriate.
  • Initiates and reviews payroll documentation for both full and part-time employees.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares period and special reports regarding facility operations, activities, and revenues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Familiarity with golf industry trends and marketing techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective personnel and public relations.
  • Planning, organizing, directing, reviewing, and evaluating the work of staff.
  • Training others in work procedures.
  • Interpreting, applying, and explaining laws, policies and regulations to staff and the public.
  • Setting priorities and coordinating multiple projects and activates.
  • Using sound, independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.

  • Establishing and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
  • Experience with sales and marketing of a golf course using existing customer data base information and online social media presence.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
Must possess or must be able to obtain the following certifications: TIPs alcohol trainer, Servsafe Food Manager, American Red Cross CPR, AED & First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and other certifications, as directed, within 6 months of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.
The physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, push, finger, feel, grasp, lift, talk, see, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle as incumbents may be subject to local travel. Operating office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements. The ability to remain in a sitting or standing position for extended periods of time.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Golf Course Management, Parks & Recreation, Business, Marketing, Hospitality, or another related field. Coursework in turf grass management, soil technology, nursery or closely related field is desired.
Completion of the PGA Professional Management program is desired.
EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years' experience in a golf course operation, including two to three (2-3) years of progressively responsible management experience. Familiarity with municipal contracts and purchasing is desired.
Experience as an assistant golf superintendent or superintendent in the management and operation of an 18-hole golf course is desirable.
