JOB SUMMARY
|
|
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, is responsible for the development and monitoring of nutrition care plans needed by Community Mental Health consumers. Duties include assessing nutrition therapy for chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and other diet-related illnesses through evidence-based, individualized meal planning. Collaborate with the treatment and medical team and ensure compliance in a variety of living settings within the community. Provide nutrition education and practical guidance to clients, families, and caregivers on meal preparation, grocery shopping and food label interpretation. Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and addresses complex nutrition-related concerns, including food allergies, intolerances, disordered eating patterns, and dysfunctional eating.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
|

Develops general nutrition programs to meet the needs of a population that is nutritionally at risk.
|

Sees individuals identified as high-risk participants for the development of an individual written nutrition care plan.
|

Provides in-service workshops to program staff members.
|

Serves as nutrition resource person for all staff members compiling information such as films, pamphlets, booklets, articles, etc., for use in programs. Assists the public with problems or questions regarding nutrition.

Develops forms for nutrition purposes. Gathers and analyzes various statistics, and assists in the preparation of agency reports as requested and required.
|

Maintains contact with other agencies and area health programs in order to coordinate efforts, eliminate duplication of efforts and enrich the nutrition component of County programs.
|

Keeps informed of developments in the field of reading publications and attending meetings, conferences and workshops to discuss related subjects.
|

Performs other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Clinical assessment and writing skills.

Clinical knowledge of dietetics and nutrition.

Using sound independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines.

Principles and practices of community-based research.
|

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Applies theory and scope of practice and Michigan Mental Health Code to professional practice.

Knowledge of the Michigan Mental Health Code including Recipient Rights and Confidentiality provisions.

High level of professionalism.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
|
|
Registered Dietitian (RD) under American Dietetic Association (ADA) standards.

|
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
|
|
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.
|
|

EDUCATION
|
|
Possession of a Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in nutrition or dietetics. Master's degree preferred.
|
|
EXPERIENCE
|
|
A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Dietitian, Nutritionist or the equivalent.
|
|
